May 18, 2006 STORE #2!!RSS Feed
POSTED BY: SCOTT

That is right! We have

OLD SIGN

started our second store. The store formerly known as "Town and Country Pets" is now Amazon Reptile Center 'Covina'. This is the store I rode my bike to to buy a mouse to feed my buddy's snake back in high school. The original carpet was still there. :(

Nonetheless the store is a huge work in progress. We will be replacing all of the enclosures and fixtures. We hired the exisiting staff, Art Gonzales and Brad Duarte, and they are working hard to learn our methods. Believe me, there are huge differences in style

NEW SIGN

between the two sets of owners.

Glenn and Carol Franks (the previous owners) are happy in their retirement and we are now simply tired! Tearing out the carpet, removing the mural on the window, re-organizing the exisiting displays to make room for customers.... the list is semmingly endless. Look for huge changes over the next couple of months.

As part of our grand

UGGG CARPETING

announcement we are staging a little event! We are having a meet and greet with Nessie the six foot alligator. She is a sweetheart and close friend of many children in our Montclair store. Soon the folks in Covina will have the experience of interacting with one of the planets most impressive reptiles. Come down, have a look at the "new" store and get a pic with Nessie. We'll burn ya a disk (yes, we accept donor disks in trade).

This is the bill that will make it nearly impossible for California reptile stores to do normal business. It bans the sale of pink mice for feeders. Further it will require a huge number of enclosures for the feeder rodents. Click here to see the current text of the revised bill.

A hearing is to be held Tuesday April 18th, 2006 in from of the California State Assembly Committee on Business and Professions. Please make sure to voice your opinions to these comittee members.

MORE: PIJAC has issued a "PetAlert" for this bill. Please take the time to read it in it's entirety. Click here to view it.

We have started a legislative action alert email list. Go here to join. This website also has a form for you to enter your zip code. Submit your zip code and you will see your California Assembly Member's and their addresses. Read the materials and send them a letter telling them your thoughts. This is for California residents ONLY. Non-Californians can help by telling their California family, friends and colleagues to take action to kill this bill. California is often a "model" for laws in other states. We seem to be leaders? We need to stop this one in it's tracks. Write your CA State Assemblymember. Write the commmittee members listed on page three of the PetAlert.
Thanks for taking the time to help. It effects all of us.

We have been asking people to write their Assemblymember. This is very important. Our lawyer suggests that we also send copies of our letters to Governor Schwarzenegger. He is hurting for votes in the upcoming election and if he sees us as a large audience maybe he will veto should the need arise.

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!

POSTED BY SCOTT:Spring is here my friends. St. Patty's Day always marks the beginning of MY spring anyway. Corned beef, green beer, Shamrock Shakes at McD's... LOL Check out our window. Our window dude, Gus, does such a great job. He shows up on schedule, knocks out the window and has even been known to share a few beers with us. Totally kewl cat.

SAMBAVA MALE

We added some new chameleons to the website today. We have a nice young pair of CB Sambava Panthers. Take a look. The are listed here before we will list them at elsewhere to give our loyal customers fist dibs on these terrific specimens. The are CB 2005. Sold to us by a local breeder that is quitting chameleons to totally focus on her ball pythons. Speaking of ball pythons. Check out these little Graziani Pastels.

IT IS ALREADY A GREAT BREEDING SEASON!

Breeding season is already kickin bunz here in SoCal. Check out our incubator. Half full in mid-March. That incubator has served us well for over five years. It is capable of holding over 2500 dragon eggs at one time! We incubate the eggs of our breeder dragons plus those of our customers. The customers give us a small commission for iuncubating and own the rest of the clutch. Those we usually buy from them as well!

I added a new feature this week. A photo gallery. The gallery will hold images of all kinds of stuff. From local natives we cannot sell but are neat to see to store events and happenings and anything else we just thought we should share. There are a few galleries already take a look.

TARYN AND HER SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT

POSTED BY SCOTT:Wow! another month has gone by. Time fun when your having flies! I simply cannot get why so much happens in so little time. We have been buying animals like mad right thru the fabled "slow season". I have had trouble making space for all the awesome animals many of you guys have produced and sold us. Today I added some breeder sized pastel jungle ball pythons at truly affordable prices. Now anyone can get into the HOT HOT HOT ball python mutation marketplace. We also recently added a truly magnificent group of blazing orange Amazon tree boas. These specimens are second generation CBB and are TAME! The grandmother and mother was/were outstanding reds and the father/grandfather is/was stunning yellow. When a litter of seven ATB's are born uniform in color it makes one want to believe we have a genetic trait here. Check them out, click here.

Customers in the spotlight. First we have Taryn. Taryn is a cute and very well mannered seventh grader.

TYEDIE CHRIS

She came in looking for a reptile related science project. I put her onto a "food preference survey" using a leopard gecko or some other lizard. She chose a male/female pair of green anoles. We set her up and she was off taking data. She offered crickets, mealworms and a few other items like baby food and lettuce. Of course they refused lettuce. But why did the refuse mealworms and baby food? I am not sure fruits and nectar are a real part of an anoles' diet but mealworms should be there. Nonetheless, she made the beautiful display seen here and she got 100% on her project! Congratulations Taryn. Another herper in the making!

Next we have Chris. Chris is a regular and always is ready to chat and be friendly. When we made out new t-shirts he bought one and then had the yerrific idea to tie dye it. Check out his work!

Last but certainly not least we have Rachel. Rachel and her constant companion Lannie are snake keeping regulars. They both attend Scripps UniversIty down the street. Well, yesterday Rachel decided to make herself a new owner of a lovely little ball python. They make a beautiful pair, don't they? :)

A LOVELY COUPLE, RACHEL AND HER NEW BALL PYTHON

Other animals of interest are our group of near adult CBB in the USA Pancake Tortoises. How rare to come across true CBB, near adult and with females available! We are extremely proud to offer this awesome species. The finest in quality anywhere and sexable size to boot. Alongside the 'cakes we have a beautifully grown group of CBB Leopard Tortoises be sure to check them out too!

This year is already promising to be the best we have ever seen. With our current inventory and those projected for the summer we are in position to have a great year. Thanks to all of our friends, customers, vendors and colleagues. We could not do it without you. Stay tuned for more exciting events. We have a couple things up our sleeve. TTFN

TANGERINE LEOPARD GECKOS

made a shop news post! Wow. A lot has happened. Mike has basically taken charge of the photography and new additions to our website. I have been exporting weekly to smart buyers all over the world. The inspectors at Fish & Wildlife know my dogs name!(Hobo) 2005 was certainly good to us. No complaintsjust good memories and smiling faces. To see what I mean look here at just some of the stuff we sold in 2005.

It has been a crazy winter already. Usually this time of year we have empty cages. This winter season started out the same. Except we are chock full o' animals again. Check out the Dabb Lizards. Three species and

LAVENDER CORNSNAKE

even more next summer! Concentric Diamondbacks, Opal, Lavender, Hypo, Vanishing Striped Ghost, ZigZag albino, Striped and Motley Normal, Motley Snow and even more cornsnakes!

. Ghost Honduran Milks, Black Milks, Hypo Tangerine Hondos and more. Some killer Dumeril's Boas at killer prices!

It's raining newts and toads here. We hope the folks in fire burned areas don't get mud-slided out. And you folks in Oklahoma and Texas stay away from those fires, sheesh! At least the Rose Parade was washed out. Perhaps, everybody won't want to move to Pasadena because of the awesome January

NO DON'T EAT YOURSELF!

weather. :)

2006 is going to be an incredible year. We have many things in store for the coming season. New species available, new business plans, new overseas buyers and generally cool stuff all the way around.
